The Nine Realms Await: A Glimpse into a World of Myth and Magic
Beyond the edge of our world, a cosmos of myth and magic awaits. Prepare to journey into a universe where the familiar stories of gods and monsters are not ancient fables, but a fractured, living reality. Welcome to the Nine Realms.
The story begins on Earth, or Midgard, the world of humanity, with two siblings, Andrew and Tessa Jensen. Still grieving the death of their father, Mark, they embark on a camping trip meant as a quiet tribute. Yet, their world begins to unravel subtly. A phone glitches with impossible colors, strange lights streak across the sky, and an unsettling sense of unease creeps into their lives. These aren't random occurrences; they are the first signs of a cosmic crisis stemming from the thinning "Veil" that separates Midgard from the other realms.
The source of this impending cataclysm is an ancient sorceress from Jotunheim named Lyra. Driven by a fierce, millennia-old devotion to her lover, Loki, Lyra seeks to unbind him and unleash his monstrous children upon the cosmos. She plans to force, pervert, and accelerate Ragnarök, turning the natural cycle of destruction and rebirth into a final, irreversible obliteration.
The siblings' lives are forever changed when a catastrophic fall plunges them into Svartalfheim, the Realm of Deep Earth and Artifice. There, they are rescued by the honorable Stronghammer clan before being forcibly separated during a brutal ambush by the hostile Stoneheart dwarves. The dwarves then gift him one of a pair of mysterious obsidian artifacts, each controlled by a different clan. When Andrew touches the stone, he is imbued with power from Yggdrasil, the World Tree. Sensing the forthcoming threat, the World Tree reaches out, granting him the abilities to speak the languages of the realms, a heightened sense of danger, and the power to subtly perceive the physical resonance of Yggdrasil from the living stone around him. Soon, he learns of an ancient prophecy that foretells "the flesh of Midgard" will choose the fate of the world.
Meanwhile, Tessa endures a more terrifying ordeal. Captured by the Stonehearts, she is brought before Lyra, who initially discounts her due to her being so young. Eventually, though, the dwarves see it as their time to fulfill the prophecy. Tessa is presented with a twin artifact, and when touched, her power awakens, giving her the same ability to understand the languages of the realms, but also to perceive and to hear the harmonious whispers from the energies of the World Tree itself. Lyra immediately recognizes the danger Tessa poses, but she also sees an opportunity to try to twist the prophecy to her benefit. Lyra attempts to befriend Tessa, but she doesn't see her as a person, but as a tool to possibly make getting the ancient artifacts needed to fuel her ritual and unbind Loki easier.
Eventually, a daring mission by some brave Stronghammers frees Tessa from captivity, and the siblings reunite. They learn of their complementary gifts, and the Stronghammers begin teaching them how to harness them, and about the actual reality of the cosmos. Because as the prophecy foretold, soon they must embark on a desperate quest to confront Lyra and prevent her from releasing Loki and unravelling the very fabric of existence. Their journey is a test of their strength, their bond, and their newfound purpose in a cosmos they never knew existed.
